It’s Always Better Together At The uCamp Rally

Written by Caitlyn Smalley

PJ and Lindsay made their way up to the Winklepleck Campgrounds in Sugarcreek, Ohio this past week to attend the 2023 uCamp Rally and boy did they come back with stories! This annual teardrop trailer rally gives nuCamp owners from all over the US and Canada the opportunity to get together for great food, music, and most importantly, great conversations. Not only that but the teardrop trailers at this rally are truly one of a kind and we were lucky enough to meet with a few of their owners to learn more about their story. From frog décor to Taylor Swift covers, PJ and Lindsay share it all.

What To Expect From The uCamp Rally

When you first get to the campsite, you’ll be greeted by the famous Winklepleck Grove arch. From there, you’ll be able to register and set up camp. Every year nuCamp works hard to give rallygoers the opportunity to connect with their teardrop community, and this year was no different. There are events happening from 8 am-9:30 am almost every night, giving fellow teardrop owners time to chat with new friends and reconnect with old ones. In between the social events, nuCamp sets up Tech Talks/Classes that allow teardrop trailer owners a chance to learn more about their camper in addition to getting their own questions answered. One of our favorite events that we look forward to every year is the Mandy & Kendrick Ambassador talk. Not only are they a true delight to be around, but as nuCamp Ambassadors, they are ridiculously knowledgeable on all things nuCamp living.

Be prepared for delicious food from fellow campers and enjoy dinner in the Glenhaven Tents. Ever been to a “Try my bologna” event? Neither had we, but of course, had to try it and report back on our findings. In conclusion, it’s something we hope they bring back every year!

During the uCamp Rally, Camper led jams are a must! This is where our mention of TayTay comes in and our inner Swifty comes out. Attending the music portion of the rally is a great time to unwind after a busy day running around the campgrounds and connect with your neighbors. More importantly, you never know when someone will bust out 80’s rock or a good Taylor Swift cover.

Can you believe there is even more to this week-long rally? The list just keeps going. From karaoke and cornhole tournaments to award ceremonies and ice cream events, we weren’t joking about the time and effort nuCamp put into their rally.

Sugarcreek, Ohio & Winklepleck Campgrounds

Known as “The Little Switzerland of Ohio”, Sugarcreek was first founded by Amish families, followed by German and Swiss families. Once Sugarcreek was built, the early settlers brought their cheese-making skills with them and opened small factories in the newly established town. Throughout the years, Sugarcreek, Ohio became known as the Swiss cheese-making industry in the state. To help promote their Swiss cheese and the town, Sugarcreek created a Swiss festival in 1953 bringing in thousands of visitors every year. To this day you can attend the festival and enjoy food, music, games, and so much more!

Winklepleck Grove is just gorgeous! The campground is located off State Route 39 right next to Black Gold Golf Club. Before arrival at the campsite, nuCamp sets up additional amenities to elevate the camping experience. Included on the campgrounds are:

  • water and electric hook-ups
  • shower trailer
  • port-a-johns and hand washing stations
  • A septic company will be at the campground twice during the week to pump units
  • A handicap bathroom will be labeled as a dump station for those with cassette toilets

Our Final Thoughts on uCamp 2023

Highs:

Coming to uCamp, you need to understand one thing. You will leave with a family. A family who answers questions, offers support, and occasionally pranks each other. The atmosphere during this event is unlike any other, full of friendly and helpful people. If relaxation is your thing, there is time and space to do that! We loved seeing everyone reading outside and taking naps (yes!). And, if you are a social butterfly, there is always a campfire with open arms, conversations with new friends, and classes to learn from. Any way that you camp, uCamp has got you covered all week long!

Lows:

The weather is pretty unpredictable and has been drastically different every year! From cold rain to hot days, just be sure to watch the weather while you are packing, and always bring back up. No matter what mother nature throws at Ohio, the nuCamp team doesn’t miss a beat making it memorable and safe for everyone.  Nothing stops the fun at uCamp!
