2021 Palomino Backpack HS-8801

The 2021 Palomino Backpack 8801 has a ton of features, style, and conveniences all in one very affordable truck camper! With a price in the low $20,000 range, this truck camper will fit a 6’6” bed or an 8’ bed on a ¾ ton truck or larger. The floor-length is 9’ making it easy to tow a boat or trailer or simply add storage or a bike rack behind the camper!

The Galley

The galley includes a 6 cu ft., 2-way Dometic refrigerator, double sink, large 3 burner stove, oven, and microwave giving you all the conveniences of home! The counter space is limited, but the dinette table easily doubles as a workspace on the opposite side. The pantry is larger than most campers its size with 2 adjustable shelves and a hanging bar at the top making this a versatile space for all types of storage! Additional cabinets above the sink, under the sink, and over the dinette give this space a respectable amount of space to store what you need.

Wet Bath

The wet bath has an amazing amount of counter space built into it, along with a small rectangular sink. The mirrored medicine cabinet has storage as well as the space below the sink. Including the skylight, the height in the bathroom is 6’. With all these features packed into a wet bath, the standing room in front of the toilet is more limited than other models, but the rest of the bathroom is a real plus in a camper this size! The small step going into the bathroom has a blue light under it for safety and convenience while moving around the camper at night. The freshwater tank is 21 gallons with a significantly smaller gray (8 gallons) and black (7 gallons). A Girard tankless water heater is standard!

Seating

The 60” jackknife sofa is what gives this layout a spacious feel. The leatherette feels luxurious, and the sofa is designed with clean lines and flat surfaces making it a perfect sleeping space for a 3rd person. At each end of the sofa, there is an armrest styled counter and cup holder which doubles as a small shelf if the table is not set up.

Sleeping

The true queen bed (60’ x 80”) faces north/south for easy access (super comfy, by the way!), and has storage down both sides. The TV (an option) and stereo fit at the end of the bed, with a swivel for viewing from either end of the camper. Across from the entertainment center is a closet for more storage. With windows on both sides and a fantastic fan above the bed, you can create a great cross breeze! Two great design features in the cabover is the window above the bed (with a blackout shade, of course!) and a narrow shelf running across the head of the bed and down the sides about 6”. Although this shelf is the height of the mattress, it’s the perfect place to leave your reading glasses, book, phone, etc.

Exterior

The outside of the 2021 Palomino Backpack 8801 has just as many great features as the inside! Standard features are the 40 lbs of propane, outside shower, prep for a backup camera, a 120 plug, cable/satellite plugs, frameless windows, and battery terminals for easy charging since the battery is accessed under the step up to the cabover. A backup camper isn’t an option from the factory, but it can easily be added at the dealer! Options that can be added include:

Construction

Construction features on the Palomino 8801 include a fully welded aluminum frame superstructure and high-density block foam insulation. The alpha super flex membrane roof is a rubber roof / TPO combination with a 12-year warranty! Maple hardwood cabinetry, ball-bearing drawer guides, and LED lighting on the inside make this feel like a much more expensive truck camper!
